Prairie Trail Announcements
Author Visit
Ankeny Community Schools has invited children's author, Mac Barnett to visit all ten elementary schools in April and May. Mac is a New York Times bestselling author of over 18 books for children, including Caldecott-Honor-winning books.  He also writes the Brixton Brothers Series of mystery novels.
Mac Barnett will be at Prairie Trail on April 27th, 2015.  We look forward to having him and hope the students will enjoy meeting this wonderful author.

Fifth Grade Band Concert
Join us for our Spring Band Performance on Thursday, April 30th, at 6:00 PM in the gym.  Fifth grade band students should arrive to the band room by 5:45 PM.  Come and hear all of their hard work!

Meals From the Heartland
On May 1, 2015 Prairie Trail students will have the opportunity to make meals for the program "Meals From the Heartland."  This will be our third year to contribute to this worthy cause.
Last year Prairie Trail made over 15,000 meals with help of students and parents in grades 1-5.  Not only does "Meal From the Heartland" serve global needs, they also meet the needs of many Iowans.
You can support this project by send a monetary donation to Prairie Trail with your student between now and April 24th. All money will be used to fund preparing meals for this project.

Board to Approve School Calendar at April 20 Meeting

The Ankeny Board of Education will vote on a 2015-2016 school calendar at their Monday, April 20 regular meeting.  After the state sent legislation regarding the school start date to the Governor on March 31, the Board reviewed several options for the calendar at their next regular meeting, held April 6.  They could not, however, approve the calendar at that meeting, as there is a requirement to first hold a public hearing, which was scheduled for April 20.

“Metro school districts have been considering the day of the week on which to start, especially for younger students, as well as the length of winter break and other factors that affect the end date of school,” said Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Bruce A. Kimpston.  “The Board will be voting Monday and a calendar will be posted as soon afterward as possible.”

Before And After-School Summer Adventures Camp Registration Now Open!
A summer full of sizzling fun is planned for students who have completed grades K-5 at the Before and After-School Program’s Summer Adventures Camp.  There is something for everyone in this summer camp that’s jam-packed with hands-on enrichment fun!  Select the camps you want, don’t pay for those you don't.  Campers may register for only one or two weeks, or the entire summer.  For more information and to register, visit the Before and After-School Program website.

Reminder: Classes to be in session April 24; snow make-up day
Due to classes being cancelled for inclement weather on January 7, Ankeny Schools will use the April 24 “Built in Snow Day” shown on the district calendar to make up the missed day.  Instead of being a day off from school, regular classes will be in session and students will attend school on Friday, April 24.
