Additional babysitting clinic now offered; register today:
Due to high interest in the Ankeny Community Education’s Babysitting Clinic, another clinic will be offered May 2 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

Iowa State Extension educators will expand your child’s skills and confidence to provide safe and responsible care when asked to babysit.  Designed for students in the fifth grade and above, this clinic teaches basic first aid, how to handle emergency situations, caring for infants and young children, meal prep, playtime, what parents expect, and much more.  The $30 cost of the program includes lunch and some essential babysitting items. 

Register today for this popular youth enrichment class.

Preschool registration is now OPEN:
Preschool registration for the 2015-2016 school year is now open.  Select one of the links below to the online registration for three-year-old or four-year-old preschool.  Registrations are time-date stamped and are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. 

National Read Across America Week
Join Prairie Trail March 2nd-6th in celebrating National Read Across America with some fun school-wide activities:
  • Monday, March 2nd: (Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss) Wear black and white and any kind of hat.
  • Tuesday, March 3rd: Wear your pajamas and bring a bear to school.  Don't forget you favorite book so that you can join the adults for 20 minutes of reading.
  • Wednesday, March 4th: Wear Mixed up Clothes and be "Wacky!"
  • Thursday, March 5th: Dress as your favorite Dr. Seuss character
  • Friday, March 6th: Wear you silliest socks today.

Music Spotlight March Class Visit

Music Spotlight Classroom Visits for grades K-3 only will take place during your student’s music class the week of March 2nd-6th.  Please remember to bring identification and to arrive early to help facilitate check in through the office.  A reminder that this event is for adults/parents only, please do not bring younger siblings as we will be very full with adults for each class.

Fifth Grade Choral Festival Practice MP3s Available:

MP3 files of the 5th grade choral festival music are now available to download and use for practice on your own.   If you're participating in the 5th Grade Choral Festival, just download the MP3s of your part and start practicing! 

  • Part 1: Students from Southeast, Terrace, Ashland Ridge and Northeast
  • Part 2: Students from Prairie Trail, Crocker, East, Rock Creek, Westwood and Northwest
  • Descant and Part 1 on "Chariot’s Comin": Students from Terrace & Westwood

Register for STEM workshop offered for grades 2-5:
Second through fifth graders can explore science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through a workshop on March 7, sponsored by Ankeny Community Education and hosted by the Boys Scouts of America.  Second and third graders will explore activities centered around engineering principles of motion, weights, levers, pulleys and much more.  Fourth and fifth graders will explore activities centered around scientific "rules and principles" and their relation to weather.  Sessions are limited to 30 participants, register here today, select the class Exploring STEM in Ankeny!  For more information view the STEM flier here.
